THE DARTMOOR ARTISAN CYCLE TRAIL (Self guided)

Chagford - Moretonhampstead - North Bovey - Chagford

Freewheel through beautiful Dartmoor countryside visiting traditional makers and craftspeople in their workshops and studios. This is an opportunity to meet creative local craftspeople and watch them practising age-old Dartmoor skills and trades.

There are a lot of artisans who work along this route so we suggest limiting your visits to four or five artisans in one day. Choose the artisans you'd like to visit from the list below, drop them a line to check they can host you, and get on yer bike!

If you'd like to try their skills for yourselves, most artisans offer workshops, which  you can book directly with them.  Full details are on their individual pages below.

Trail time: Six-seven hours, depending on the number of artisans you choose to visit.
Distance: Eight miles (about 2.5 hours of cycling).
Terrain: Hilly country lanes.
Recommended bike: Hybrid
Bike hire: Devon Cycling Holidays will drop off bikes to your accommodation. They will collect them from a different point if you don't wish to do the whole trail. If you don't fancy peddling the hills, Dartmoor Electric Bikes rent out powered bikes by the day.
Route: Chagford - Moretonhampstead - North Bovey - Chagford. This is a circular trail so can be started and finished at any point. See map at bottom of this page for our suggested route.
