THE BASKET MAKER
BASKET MAKER, WILLOW AND RUSH GROWER
Chagford, Dartmoor, Devon
Every summer, accompanied by her dog, Boz, Linda takes to her homemade wooden coracle to cut her year’s supply of rush on the Somerset Levels.
Each winter, she harvests willow from her own beds in Chagford. Once dried – a process which takes several weeks and involves regular turning – they are ready to be woven into baskets and chairs, which Linda sells in her Chagford shop.
“I get such satisfaction from growing, harvesting and creating beautiful things from my own materials, and in continuing the traditions of our ancestors,” she says.
During Linda's workshop, you'll have a tour of Linda's willow beds in Chagford, learn weaving basics and have a chance to make your own willow sculpture.
