THE BASKET MAKER

LINDA LEMIEUX

BASKET MAKER
Wood and Rush, Chagford

Every summer, accompanied by her dog, Boz, Linda takes to her handmade coracle to cut her year’s supply of rush on the Somerset Levels.

Once dried – a process which takes several weeks and involves regular turning – the rush is ready to be woven into baskets and chairs, which Linda sells in Moretonhampstead’s Green Shoes and from her workshop near Chagford.

“I get such satisfaction from growing, harvesting and creating beautiful things from my own materials, and in continuing the traditions of our ancestors,” she says.

During Linda's workshop, you'll have a tour of Linda's willow beds, just outside Chagford, learn weaving basics and have a chance to make your own small foraging basket using rush and willow.
